Vintage "STRATTON" Victorian Courting Couple Enameled Scalloped Edge Lady's Powder Compact w Mirror, Made in England, 1960's, Gold tone.
Simply outrageously beautiful and sweet Stratton ladies vintage powder compact that had one collector owner and has never been used. It depicts a French garden scene with two lovers standing in front of a waterfall, and two cupids holding up a document that has "surment" at the top. This translates to "OATH". The passionate embrace is backed up by an eternal oath of fidelity by the lovers to one another as their hands touch the paper. The entire scene is very reminiscent of the French Rococo painter, Jean-Honore' Fragonard.
